CENTRA Technology, Inc. is a leading provider of engineering, scientific, and program management support services to some of the top agencies in the U.S. government, including NASA, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Department of Homeland Security and the intelligence community.  CENTRA is currently seeking highly motivated s/w development and application engineer to conduct engineering analysis and participate in aeroscience research activities. This position will be supporting a contract with NASA Ames Research Center (Code AM), Moffett Field, CA.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:

He/she shall perform the following tasks:

  1. Provide software development and application support to computational and measurement activities. The candidate shall:
    • Develop and apply simulation and modeling software on PC platforms under Windows and Linux-type environments to design, develop, and validate advanced aeronautical technologies. 
    • Perform modeling quality assurance, programming, and testing of contractually developed software from various sources.  Communicate and consult with developers and users to improve product. 
    • Provide computational support of in-flight measurements efforts.  Coordinate with technical staff in other disciplines to assure that work conforms to project requirements 
    • Perform software application, documentation, programming, script generation, data reduction, and report generation. 
    • Assist in the planning and development of efficient computational methodologies to automate processes in order to optimize workflow and minimize subjectivity in analysis and modeling.
    •  Develop conductive, convective, and radiative heat transfer models for aerospace technologies and systems.
    • Develop and employ software modeling tools to interpret computational results and compare to experimental test data.
    • Perform parametric, statistical and sensitivity analyses in support of Code AM in-house and contracted research activities
    • Provide flight test engineering support as required.  From time-to-time, this may require the individual to fly as a Qualified Non-Crewmember in a NASA data acquisition aircraft to support project activities.  This may require the contract individual to obtain and maintain flight certification approvals as a Qualified Non-Crewmember for a NASA flight vehicle.  The contractor shall also follow all NASA regulations concerning enrolling and maintaining a hearing conservation program for the contract individual flying in the NASA aircraft.
    • Prepare reports and documentation as required
     
  2. Participate in Government, industry, or professional association sponsored training courses, seminars, and/or conferences that will enhance NASA's understanding of computational capabilities. 
  3. Attend technical meetings and serve as consultant for software development. 
  4. Must be willing to fly in a Learjet in support of data gathering.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The candidate shall possess at least a BS degree in engineering or physics.  An MS degree is preferred.  
  • At least 5 years of applied s/w development and analysis is required.
  • Experience in the development and execution of aeronautical/aerospace computational modeling tools to simulate physical process such as CFD, Thermodynamics and heat transfer.
  • Experience in the field and laboratory research involving engineering testing and measurements; flight research experience highly desired.
  • Experience in computational modeling, simulation or design optimization in an engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and procedures.
  • Advanced image processing experience is highly desired
  • Proficiency in developing s/w using C/C+ while employing good programming practices and documentation
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python scripting for performance analysis.  FORTRAN is a plus.
  •  Experience applying software in both a Windows and Linux-type environment is preferred. 
  • The candidate should be proficient in using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel. 
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, a team player, well organized, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Team leadership experience is desired.

 

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • This is a drug-testing designated position
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance and additional security screening.

 

TRAVEL:

Candidate must be willing to travel 5-7 times per year, some durations are for extended period of time (2-4 weeks). 

 

Candidates will work closely with Government Program Managers as well as high level personnel throughout the government and industry research and development communities.  Applicants must be technically strong and possess superior oral and written communications skills.
